For years, I watch companies make poor decisions in critical areas of their business model. One of the more critical mistakes is made in the area of software.

In the last 15 years, MLM Software has advanced considerably.
Unfortunately, international access to programmers has led to a number of confusing MLM Softwares developed by people with no knowledge of the MLM Industry, no experience with MLM Security, and a single focus on selling a product with a full expectation of your failure within 30-120 days.

Often, the conversation will come up over PHP and ASP.NET, MySQL and MS SQL.
Initial questions are; "Why are some software solutions more expensive than others?"

Interesting how the most important purchase one can make when launching an MLM Business is approached from a direction of cost..... (First Clue of an eventual Train Wreck).

More important than price, should be the very real Security and Performance concerns.

PHP and MySQL are Open Source solutions, freely available and used by schools and programmers with little or no budget, in many countries.
Because of ease to acquire, large numbers of students were started on this platform. With no knowledge of MLM, important concerns for systems storing and handling DOB, Social Security, Credit Card, Bank Account, and other personal data, these Students and Hobbyists have virtually no ability to develop a Secure Software Solution.
More important, and to bring it home, you must understand that the PHP programming language does not have Security built in it.
Security is almost completely upon the skills of the programmer, who most certainly has no experience in the MLM Industry, nor in the intricate Security issues surrounding such critical data.
Most PHP developers have absolutely no knowledge or skills in the area of Security, yet PHP requires that security be hand coded and developed... by hand.

Again, the greatest danger in security is that PHP has no core security, leaving the programmer skills and often limited experience as the only means of security.

ASP.NET and MS SQL are Microsoft Products, cost money, and require much more technical and programming skills to utilize.

The initial contrast between the two can lead the discussion into the quality of a finished application or web service, which in turn can lead to a discussion of security.

Some tasks, like ActiveX controls are Windows-specific and function best in Windows operating environtments. Both databases use ODBC and will perform with similarity.

Classic ASP is outdated, but ASP.NET provides incredible functionality that PHP does not have. It also provides performance improvements with it's integration with SQL Server, which again, PHP does not have. ASP.NET performance with SQL is far superior, especially in it's ability to hold multiple data tables in it's datasets while maintaining data relationships.
Additionally, the ability to manage connection pools and stored procedures enables.

With regards to SQL server, ASP.NET provides dedicated class libraries, while PHP does not.

PHP and MySQL is easier to learn, ASP.NET and MS SQL is more expensive to host.

Security
PHP has long been known to be riddled with security issues. PHP developers have no core security measures within the software, and must write security from scratch. Security is then limited to a developers skill sets at the time of development.

Microsoft's ASP.NET is extremely secure in it's raw state, even before hand coding or software methods of security. In it's basic state, there are 3 kinds of Security, Forms, Passport, and Integrated Windows.

Finally, ASP.NET advances as technology permits. PHP is only advanced by a user skills, if any.

ASP.NET handles Faster and More Secure the Data from Databases than PHP could dream of.

Microsoft MS SQL is what runs the NASDAQ and the tons of real time data streaming on the big board.
